Current Books & Projects

Kim -- a longtime expert on Hawaii, Cape Cod, New England, and the Southwest -- has been writing about travel since 1984. She writes extensively -- as the Hawaii, Cape Cod, and Boston expert -- for the itinerary planning site, homeandabroad.com, named a Travel & Leisure Top Travel Web site in 2007. Kim also serves as the Hawaii lodging expert for away.com and writes about luxury destinations for orbitz.com. Look for the pairing of Kim's photography and writing in the forthcoming Backroads of New England, to be published by Chronicle Books in Fall 2008. She wrote the first edition of Cape Cod for The Countryman Press in 1994 and has been writing for Lonely Planet since 1996.

Lonely Planet Road Trip New England
(1st edition)

Kim began driving before the legal age limit and her passion for taking road trips remains unabated. She prefers 'black roads' to ‘red roads’ (state highways versus interstates on an AAA map) and is more determined than ever to avoid ‘red states’ as opposed to ‘blue states.’ Whatever your politics or preferences, your tank will never run empty with her dry humor and sage advice. Go cruisin' with her up the craggy Maine Coast, along the spine of Vermont, over the river and through the woods of the Berkshires and .....

Lonely Planet Boston
(2nd edition)

Let a 20-year resident guide you on five diverse walking tours; in search of brewpubs and clam chowder; through a maze of hidden brick alleys and current political posturing; through the torture (and glee) of being a Red Sox fan; through the thicket of high hotel prices; and to current clubs and eclectic bookstores. Excursions head to revolutionary Lexington and Concord, bewitching Salem, seafaring Marblehead and Cape Ann, the Pilgrim's Plymouth, and beachy Cape Cod.

Kim also has extensive stock photography of Boston.

Lonely Planet Florida
(4th edition)

Kim's introduction gets the discussion going: "There are only four things you really need to know about Florida. Number one: The sun, sea and sand are just as incredible as they are in your mind's eye; fun lurks around most corners. Number two: Everyone is from somewhere else. Number three: Quirky, bizarre and surreal things happen in Florida first (and often nowhere else). And, number four, as the New York Times says, ‘As Florida goes, so goes a nation.’

Lonely Planet Miami & the Keys
(3rd edition)

With complete coverage of the swampy Everglades, sizzling Fort Lauderdale, cruising the Keys, and drinking in Key West. As Kim says in the intro: "There's more to Miami than sex in South Beach. Certainly, this city is sultry ... There are plenty of justifiably trendy and wonderfully shallow reasons why exotic models, celebrities and you are drawn to SoBe's circuit of chichi nightclubs, mod martini bars, sophisticated restaurants and renovated art deco hotels. When we say it's the hottest and steamiest city in America, we're not just talking weather ... And yet, if you limit yourself to sensuous past times ...."

Best Places to Stay in Hawai'i
(6th edition)

It's a fact. You will spend more on lodging than on any other aspect of your Hawaiian getaway. The discerning, honest reviews in this guide can prevent you from wasting hundreds of dollars on a lodging choice that doesn't suit your needs and tastes.

As Kim says: "It's almost as easy for visitors to hate Hawai'i as to love it … This book is designed to make it easier to love Hawai'i … The first step in making Hawai'i magical for you is to understand the differences between the islands in vacation allure … The second critical choice is accommodations." This guide addresses those primary questions with utmost honesty, in a way other guidebooks don't. And when you find a place to stay in an area that excites you, "you've concocted a powerful aphrodisiac."

Kim also has extensive stock photography files of Hawai'i.
